Michaelmas Cay, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia
Michaelmas Cay is one of the most important bird nesting sites in the Great Barrier Reef. There can be as many as 10,000 - 20,000 breeding pairs on the island at one time. Michaelmas Cay is a significant breeding site for ground nesting species like common noddies, sooty terns, crested terns and lesser crested terns. Sixteen species of seabirds are regularly observed. Access is limited to a small roped area on the beach for limited time each day.
This view of a Brown Booby and the sea birds of Michaelmas Cay was taken during nearly five weeks travelling in Australia and New Zealand (VR Tour to follow soon, stay tuned).
